This week the Faldo Elite Tour travelled down from Scotland to sunny Staffordshire.
Located within the quiet town of Trentham, Trentham Golf Club offers glorious woodlands, picturesque fairways, and perfectly manicured greens. The 6760-yard Harry Colt design course offered a tricky challenge to the elite amateurs who looked to further their positions in the Faldo Elite Tour rankings.
Connor Bell started strong, with a score of 3 under through three and looked to set the pace for the day. Freddie Macarthur was close behind with a similar score after an additional hole at 3 under through 4.
Harry Uzzell, current leader of the Faldo Elite Tour Order of Merit, knew a strong performance would provide a serious advantage at the end of the season. He did just that, and capitalised on his improving form with a 2 under par front nine. There were no mistakes on the day for Uzzell, who repeated his front nine efforts on the back with a 1 under par score to shoot a bogey free 69, 3 under par.
After his victory, Uzzell said ‘I’ve been to Trentham before, everything is tree-lined which is quite tricky so my strategy for the day was to be aggressive and hit lots of drivers. Luckily it worked for me and it’s a good confidence boost before the British Am next week and the rest of the Faldo Elite Tour season’.
Many thanks to Una Handley, and the whole team at Trentham for hosting a welcome return to the club for the Faldo Series. With its newly refurbished bunkers, the course provided a slick test for the Elite Tour players.
The next Faldo Elite Tour event takes place at Luton Hoo, Hertfordshire on the 28th of July.
